Benefits of Recycled Reels

• Significant cost avoidance, including handling
  labor, dumpster fees and landfill charges.
• Valuable community landfill space is not filled up
  with good usable wood.
• Transport fuel is saved because the reels are not
  transported to a dump.
• Recycling reels has saved over 40 million board feet
  of new lumber from being used.
• Manufacturing energy is avoided because every
  time a reel is recycled, a new reel does not have to
  be created. It takes approximately 80% less energy
  to remanufacture a reel than it does to manufacture
  a new one from raw materials.
• For decades, the empty reel has been a liability for
  every utility. We would like for utility companies to
  view the empty reel as a non-value asset that would
  only become a liability if allowed.
